The Burberry Check

The Burberry Check is the signature of Burberry. It was introduced as a lining to the trench coat and was registed as a trademark in 1920. From that time, this pattern is frequently used in different products, e.g. bag, wallet, garment, accessory, etc. Although it is used for more than 80 years, it is still famous among different ages and level of customers. It is never old-fashion and out of date.




Colors combination is the magic behind.

This traditional check pattern is called 'Haymarket Check' or 'Burberry Classic Check'. It is the combination of the black, white, red and beige colors.

The white and black are the achromatic colors. Beige is the main color in this pattern. Red strips intercross with the black and white strips to form different values of color.

When the red strips cross the black strips, the value of red color increase and shade appeal. When the red strips cross the white strips, the value of red color decrease and tint appeal.
When the strip cross with the same color strip, their chroma (or intensity) increase.

White is added to each color so as to lower their value. The colors in this pattern are in medium-chroma (constant chroma) and they are in analogous color combination.
